Skills and key competencies

  • Geospatial analysis: Python geospatial packages including GeoPandas, Shapely, GDAL/OGR, rasterio, netCDF, and OSMnx for spatial data processing, georegistration, spatial matching, and reproducible analysis; QGIS, ArcGIS Pro, PyQGIS, and Google Earth Engine for geospatial workflows and visualisation.

  • Machine learning and statistical analysis: Python and R/RStudio for data wrangling, machine learning, Bayesian modelling, uncertainty and sensitivity analysis, multivariate analysis, and applied econometrics, including spatial and hedonic models.

  • Drone-based remote sensing: UAV multispectral and hyperspectral imagery, image correction and alignment, sun-glint correction, turbidity mapping, and processing workflows for coastal and environmental monitoring.

  • Water-quality modelling: Water Quality Index development, hydrology and water-quality modelling, total suspended solids retrieval, and SWAT/QSWAT/SWAT-CUP applications for riverine and reservoir systems.

  • Open-source tools and reproducible research: Python, R, Quarto, Git/GitHub, and open-source software development, including CoastalWQL for processing hyperspectral imagery and producing coastal-turbidity maps, and SUGAR (Sun Glint-Aware Restoration) for sun-glint correction in UAV imagery.

  • Field and operational practice: Water-quality sampling, stakeholder-facing decision-support tools, and a CAAS-certified Unmanned Aerial Pilot License for operating drones up to 25 kg.
